Feasting at sam's chowder house

This evening Randall and I drove through insane fog and gray skies to
meet the scheelbarrows for dinner. The destination was Sam's chowder
house in half moon bay. The food was great unpretentious seafood. And
sure there might be a slight markup in price due to the popularity and
hype (NBC calls the lobster roll one of the best sandwiches in the us
and while it was tasty I don't know if it would be the "best"), but
not enough to make you think it's a scam. Plus the food was done
really well and I happened to love my mountain of seafood in red sauce
(aka cioppino - I'm sure that's spelled wrong).

Bloody Mary reward

Randall and I are meeting the scheelbarrows at Sam's chowder house.
It's the quarterly meetup and what would've been a great idea (dinner
on the ocean) is only going to be a good idea. Mother nature is not on
our side and the ocean is a nice wall of gray. However Randall is
telling me that I am incorrect. He says it's a great idea. It's a
perfect chowder day.

In other news, we are on time for once. And this means we get to enjoy
bloody marys and cider at the bar.

Cherry bomb (prototype study)

This afternoon I decided to attack the leftover situation and invented
a sandwich. It's marble rye bread with Swiss cheese, avocado, BBQ
smothered shredded chicken breast and halved cherry tomatoes. It was
okay, but was lacking something and the texture was off. I lightly
toasted the bread, but it wasn't enough and had too "bready" of a
texture. However the ingredients were great together and I liked the
ripe halved cherry tomatoes. Now I want to come up with a sandwich
called cherry bomb. I'm thinking it needs to be spicy too. Thoughts?

A different kind of avocado

Jessi's mom has an avocado tree in her back yard and jessi has reaped
a good chunk of the rewards. When I was at her house last week I
refused to believe that these were avocados. They're small like plums
and look more like mega figs, in fact the skin is smooth and dark
purple too. However once you cut them open it's evident that they are
indeed avocados. The insides are smooth and creamy, and just the right
shade of green. Anyone know the variety?
