I found the holy Grail

Several years ago a few friends and I went to Iceland where we fell in
love with skyr. Skyr is a type of fat free healthy thick yogurt that
is freaking delicious (sort of like Greek yogurt but better). Sadly it
was only available in Iceland and we could not eat it here in
California. Eventually whole foods starting carrying it, but only the
ones in new York due to shipping reasons. Meanwhile a company in the
us was working on making their own version. Once they did it too was
only available in new York. But tonight, while shopping at the new
whole foods in Noe valley, I found it! Siggi's skyr is available here
and it tastes so much like the skyr I had in Iceland. Plus the
grapefruit version is so wonderfully tangy. I heart skyr.

Sounds interesting, is it expensive. Sounds like you wouldn't care but I'm curious. I've never heard of skyr before

oh it was pricey - not ridiculous, but not cheap either - it's actually on sale for 2/$4 - which is more than i want to pay for yogurt (my fave is the 89 cent trader joe's organic, which is the exact opposite in texture to this stuff). however i've been wanting to eat this stuff for the last 4 and a half years, so i would probably have bought it even if it was $5 each.

also, it's really really thick and since i was eating it with other stuff (apples and figs) i only ate half a container in one sitting. if i think about it that way i might be able to justify the price.

oh and i might come across as not caring about price, but it's mostly only food things that i'm that way about. for everything else i'm totally cheap. that or the food is too expensive i can't afford anything else. Eye-wink

You got me curious when I read this post two weeks ago. I started looking for skyr in supermarkets and found some today. Turns out they started selling it here in Norway last month.
I only got one container of strawberry & pomegranate skyr since it's so expensive ($3 / container). I loved it! I'll try blackberry & vanilla next time.
